The beautiful island of Roatan, is about 35 miles off the coast of Honduras. This Western Caribbean island is surrounded by the 2nd largest coral reef eco system on the planet. With its white sand beaches, turquoise water, friendly people and average year round temperatures in the 80’s, with ocean breezes what’s not to love?  Although the island has an International airport and cruise ship terminals many people have never heard of this island paradise.

The island of Roatan has a very low cost of living with the typical wages of $20 – $25 a day you can have a gardener, housekeeper or personal assistant.  Roatan has a lush tropical landscape and beautiful crystal clear water. There are many things to on the island. You can ride horses on the beach, zip-line, scuba dive, snorkel, fish, relax on the beach, parasail, swim with dolphins and so much more.

If you want to have a night on the town, the island’s West end has plenty of restaurants and bars / nightclubs to explore.  My wife and I look forward to retiring on the island one day. Roatan has a large group of expats that meet up several times a week.  We met expats that visited the island and fell in love with the place and decided to move there, others that have currently lost faith in North America and want to live somewhere else, others that are from Canada that spend the winters on the island and some that retired and started a business on the island like a fishing or scuba diving guide, motel, or diver resort owners. There is a lot of opportunity on the island, if someone is motivated.

Real estate on Roatan is very affordable and property taxes are very low. My dad and I recently started a development with our new Honduras Corporation Paradise Properties of Honduras We are selling Roatan Real Estate. Our development The Mariposa Lagoon –  is close to the middle of the island, but is considered the East end. The East side is a more laid back atmosphere and doesn’t have much of the congestion and cruise ship guest as the West end. There is plenty to do on the East end too, but without the large crowds.  The property is on a beautiful lagoon over-looking the Caribbean ocean. With a 200′ boat dock this development is the perfect place to have a boat.

There are several dive spots at the mouth of the lagoon and even coral reef inside the lagoon. If you do not have a boat, Jonesville is right around the corner.  You can literally have a fishing guide, water taxi, or snorkeling outfitter pick you up on the dock and take you and your family fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, or take you on an island tour.  It doesn’t get better than this, you can enjoy the treasures of the island without leaving your property.

All lots have a beautiful ocean view, access to the boat dock and clubhouse that will be built after phase 1 is complete.  The lots are 150′ x 100′ and start at $49,000.  My dad has been a building contractor for 40 years and will build your dream vacation, or retirement home.  With many great home plans to choose from we have something for everyone’s taste.  As Roatan gains in popularity the rental demand will increase. Having a home built on this island is a good long-term investment. As the world’s economy improves, the prices of land and homes will raise considerably.  The lots we are selling were going for $75,000 – $85,000 before the economy took a dive,  You can bet the prices will increase over time.  For more information on the Mariposa Development visit www.RoatanRealEstateDreams.com. There are so many reasons to live in Roatan.
